Meet the experienced coaching team behind Dynamic Martial Arts. Our instructors are here to guide, motivate and help every student grow in confidence, discipline and skill.
Dave Sawyer
Head Instructor
Dave Sawyer is the Head Instructor of Dynamic Martial Arts, an 8th Dan Grandmaster, and the World President of WKA International since 2018
With 21 years of teaching on the Hibiscus Coast, Dave has built a strong reputation for developing students of all ages through martial arts.
His teaching focuses on discipline, confidence, respect, fitness, and real skill development, creating a positive environment where beginners and experienced martial artists alike can thrive.
With both local coaching experience and international leadership in the sport, Dave brings a unique depth of knowledge and passion to every class at Dynamic Martial Arts.
Mike Howard
Head Instructor - Adults
Mike holds a 3rd Dan WKA Black Belt
He leads our adult kickboxing classes alongside our adult coaching team, overseeing technical development and helping prepare students for competition.
Mike proudly represented New Zealand in 2017, competing in the UK at the ICO World Cup and at the WKA Unified World Championships in Italy. He has played an important role in training fighters and is also a coach in the Fight Girls programme.
In 2022, Mike served as an assistant coach for the New Zealand team at the championships in Wales, where our club’s fighters returned with an outstanding medal haul.
Riley Dexter
Head Instructor - Juniors
Riley holds a 3rd Dan WKA Black Belt.
She leads our junior classes with support from our junior 1st Dan assistants and plays an important role in guiding the development of our junior students.
Riley brings extensive teaching experience and has also represented New Zealand on the international stage. In 2015, she competed at the WKA Unified World Championships in Spain, returning home with both Gold and Silver medals in her divisions.
She is also a qualified judge and has officiated at many events, including judging and refereeing multiple times at the 2022 WKA World Championships in Wales.
Casey Tucker
Adults Instructor
Casey holds a 3rd Dan WKA Black Belt.
He is also a coach in many of our Fight Girls programmes and brings a lifelong passion for martial arts, with a strong focus on kickboxing and Muay Thai.
Casey began his martial arts journey in the UK as a Taekwondo student. Over the past 30 years, he has trained extensively in Muay Thai, boxing, jiu-jitsu, self-defence, open-hand combat, and kickboxing.
As head coach of our new fight team, Casey brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to students taking their first steps into competition.
Sandra Wight
Adults Instuctor
Sandra holds a 2nd Dan WKA Black Belt.
Sandra has an extensive background in kickboxing, having earned her 1st Dan in Germany while regularly competing on the tournament circuit across Europe in both mat sports and ring sports.
Since moving to New Zealand and joining Dynamic Martial Arts, she has been an active part of our Fight Girls programme while also competing in events herself.
Sandra also represented New Zealand at the 2022 World Championships in Wales.
Taine Sawyer
Taine holds a 1st Dan WKA Black Belt.
He is a dedicated instructor who is passionate about helping students build confidence, discipline, and martial arts skills.
Having grown up around martial arts, Taine understands the value of perseverance, resilience, and overcoming challenges, and he now shares those lessons through his coaching.
Taine leads our Junior Fight Squad with a strong passion for the competitive side of kickboxing and a desire to inspire those coming through.
He has also represented New Zealand at the WKA World Championships in Poland in 2019 and Wales in 2022.
Chelsea Howard
Adults Instructor
Chelsea holds a 1st Dan WKA Black Belt.
She has been a valued part of our Fight Girls programme since joining it herself and developing a strong passion for kickboxing.
Chelsea has helped support new fighters as they begin their journey in training and competition. Alongside her experience through Fight Girls and in the ring, she has also proudly represented New Zealand on the world stage at the 2022 championships in Wales.
Cody Collins
Adults Instuctor
Cody holds a Club Black Belt.
Cody enjoys sharing his technical knowledge with the next generation of students. With experience ranging from Light Contact competition in mat sports to K1 fights in ring sports, he brings a well-rounded approach that helps his sessions cover all aspects of kickboxing.
